Security Resident Action Checklist |
Resident Action Checklist: Security. M2's Guide to improving security and safety in your building. Poor security can lead to a number of issues for residents, including break-ins, theft of belongings, and a general feeling of unease. This checklist is designed to help residents improve overall security. By working together, we can create a safer and more comfortable living environment for everyone. General Security: - Open all doors and windows: Report any suspicious activity or damage to your block manager immediately. - Get to know your neighbours; a sense of community can deter crime. - Secure your belongings: don't leave valuables in plain sight from windows. - Lock your flat whenever you leave, even for a short while. - Don't buzz unknown visitors into the building; verify their identity before allowing entry. - Be cautious about sharing personal information online or with strangers. Building Entrance & Access: - Ensure the building entrance door closes and locks securely behind you. - Report any malfunctioning door locks or intercom systems to your block manager. - Don't prop open any building access doors. - If you have a fob or key code entry system, don't share it with anyone outside your household. - Be aware of "tailgating" - don't allow unknown individuals to follow you into the building. Security Within Your Flat: - Use all available locks on your door. If you have a deadbolt and a chain lock, engage both whenever you are in the flat, even for short periods. - Install and use window locks on all windows. In Case of a Break-In: - Do not enter your flat and call emergency services on 999 immediately! - Once the police have arrived, report the incident to your block manager. Communication: - Attend any resident meetings to discuss security concerns. - Report any crime or suspicious activity to the police! - Consider creating a residents' communication group (e.g., WhatsApp) to share information and updates. Working closely with your block manager: - Contact your block manager with any security concerns or suggestions for improvement. - Report any malfunctioning security features (e.g., security cameras, lighting) - Inquire about additional security measures offered (e.g., security patrols). By following these tips and working together with your neighbours and your block manager, you can create a safer living environment for everyone in your building.
